I Set Out to Build a Business That Would Provide Freedom
For Years it DID... Until it Took My Freedom Right Back.
Today, I help founders make sure that never happens to them.
The Tina Sue Story:
In 1999 I started my first company, with zero business experience, pregnant with my daughter because I wanted to build something meaningful and still be present for my growing family.
For a few years, it worked perfectly.
Then the business became "successful" and the freedom disappeared.
I missed bedtimes, missed baths, and one Christmas morning, I left my kids mid-gifts to go handle a staffing crisis.
The business wasn't failing.
It was succeeding.
But I had never build my own freedom into it.
I did what many owners do at this point: I put the business on the market to sell. The deal feel apart the night before closing.
That was the moment I decided to figure out how to have the business, time freedom and the money I deserved all at the same time.
It took a few years, but it worked. I acquired a competitor, elevated my leadership team, and build systems and processes to support the entire business.
The business was operating without me. I started several other businesses in the meantime.
A strategic buyer noticed and made a 7 figure offer. I exited that business in 2015.
That exit taught me something nobody had prepared me for. Building a business for freedom is one thing. Protecting it and converting success into lasting personal wealth is an entirely different conversation. So I made it my mission to share that knowledge with other owners.
I've been advising owners since 2011, served as VP of Finance and Acquisitions at a national advisory firm helping scale it through strategic acquisitions.
I hold the Certified Exit Planning Advisor credentials because the exit should be part of the strategy from day 1.
I have sat in every seat at the table: founder, operator, business advisor, financial advisor, buyer and seller.
